Take the N2 turn off (left) towards Somerset West.
Keep on the N2 (±100km) until your will see a small town, Botriver, on the left.
The road will split. Take a left onto the R43. “Hermanus 38km” sign.
When you reach Hermanus, drive down the main road (called Main Road, still the R43).
The R43 zigzags through the village to the left.
For reference, you’ll pass “The Marine Hotel” on your right.
Keep driving for ±5km until you reach a circle (roundabout).
Take the second exit off the circle (signed Stanford/Gaansbaai)/7th Street.
Continue for +/- 1 kilometre and pass a “7-Eleven” shop on the left.
After the 7-Eleven, there will be a sign on the left saying “Voelklip”.
Turn right at this sign, on to 7th Avenue.
Follow the road all the way to Voëlklip Beach ±200 metres.
Turn right on the last road before the beach.
Birkenhead House is situated on the corner of 7th Avenue and 11th Street.

This is an optional scenic route from the airport.
Take the N2 turn off (left) towards Somerset West.
Continue on the N2 past the airport and the R44/Strand turn-off until you reach the bottom of Sir Lowry’s Pass.
Turn right turn to Gordon’s Bay (well signposted).
From Gordon’s Bay, continue on the R44 towards Rooiels.
On the R44, you will pass through the following towns: Rooiels, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond.
Approximately 10km outside of Kleinmond you will reach the R43, turn right here towards Hermanus.
When you reach Hermanus, drive down the main road (called Main Road, still the R43).

Travel up and over the Franschhoek Pass.
At the T-junction to Villiersdorp, turn right towards Grabouw (at the Theewaters Dam).
Follow the signs to the N2.
Turn east on the N2 towards Swellendam.
Keep on the N2 until you see a small town, Botrivier, on your left
The road will split ~ take a left onto the R43. "Hermanus 38km" sign
Drive straight into Hermanus Main Road.
Just before the commercial section of Hermanus, the R43 is signposted to the left.
Turn left and follow the R43 through a series of turns towards Stanford.
Drive past the golf course and continue to a traffic circle.
Take the second turn off out of the circle and continue (still Main Road) until the first road on your right (approximately 1km )
This will be 7th Avenue.
Continue for about 200m towards Voelklip Beach.
Birkenhead House is situated on the corner of 7th Avenue and 11th Street .

Follow Stellenbosch main road (Strand Road - R44) out of Stellenbosh travelling towards Somerset West & Strand.
Drive past Mooiberge Farm Stall.
Follow the road until you get to a traffic light with the NH Lord Charles Hotel on your right.
Proceed straight until you see the sign N2 on you left.
Turn left on to the N2 and follow the highway over Sir Lowry’s Pass.
Continue straight on this highway until you see the R43 turn off to Hermanus. (30 minutes).
Follow the road through the town until, at the far end, one approaches a traffic circle.
Keep straight ahead and turn right at the first road down to the sea.
Birkenhead House is situated on the right at the sea side.

Travel on the N2 towards Cape Town.
Pass Riviersondend and 10km further along take the R326 to Stanford.
In Stanford you will come to a 4-way stop with a fuel station in front of you, turn right onto the R43 to Hermanus.
This road will take you around the estuary and into Hermanus onto what is now Main Road.
Look out for 7th Avenue and turn left into 7th Avenue.
Continue (approx 200m) towards Voëlklip Beach, crossing a stop street.
Birkenhead House is situated on the corner of 7th Avenue and 11th Street on your right prior to the public parking area.

Directions from Birkenhead House

Take 7th Avenue to the 7th Street (R43) and turn left.
Continue along the R43 (now called Main Road) into the middle of town.
The road doglegs to the right (now called Harbour Road).
Keep driving along the R43, you will leave Hermanus and continue towards the N2.
7km after your pass the turn off to Kleinmond (R44) you have to turn off to the right to Botriver to take the N2 North and continue straight
